Rosé Season Has Arrived
Master Sommelier Dustin Wilson shares the best bottles to pop.
Spring signals the time to switch from heavy winter Cabernets to light, refreshing bottles of rosé. This not-quite-hot, not-quite-cold weather wine offers the fruit and freshness of a white wine, but because it is made from red grapes and the juice has spent time on the skins (giving it that pretty pink color), it has more structure like a red. Rosé drinks well on its own but also pairs nicely with light salads, cooked shellfish, and grilled chicken. You don't have to visit a luxury wine destination to sip these springtime favorites. Here, Master Sommelier and Verve Wine co-founder Dustin Wilson shares the rosés he’s drinking now so you can bring them home.
Sous Marine Rosé 'La Seiche' 2020
This is a Verve Wine exclusive. Fruit for this thirst-quenching, Grenache/Mourvedre/Cinsault blend comes from Camp 4 vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley. There is a beautiful light rosé color along with amazing texture and mouthfeel to contrast the natural crisp acidity.
Arnot-Roberts Rosé 2020
I love everything that Arnot-Roberts produces. Everything they do has great attention to detail and is fascinating and unique. This is a 100% Touriga Nacional rosé that is mineral-driven, packs plenty of acidity and has a saline-tinged finish. It is a super thirst-quenching wine and is one of our top picks for year-round sipping.
Presqu'ile Rosé Santa Maria Valley 2019
We love the team over at Presqu'ile and they have an amazing property in the heart of Santa Maria, one of California's best spots for Pinot Noir. This rosé is all Pinot and is vibrant, with plenty of fruit and punchy aromatics.
Yves Leccia Rosé Patrimonio 2019
Dubbed the ‘Rolls Royce’ of Corsican wines, Yves Leccia has been producing high-quality wines for over 30 years, pioneering organic farming and the cultivation of native varieties. This rosé from Patrimonio is a Niellucciu (80%) and Grenache blend, made via 12-hour maceration and vinified in steel. It is crunchy and mineral-forward. A really fun Corsican rosé for people who love really mineral-driven wines.
Girolamo Russo Rosé Etna 2019
This salty rosé is one of our favorites from Italy. Pale and orange-hued, the juice is loaded with flavors of peach, salt and fresh herbs, marked by a nice smokiness that only Etna Rosato could provide. For those who prefer more savory styles of rosé, this is your wine.
