Where to Eat, Shop, and Play in Los Cabos

From world-class dining to sun-soaked adventures, explore the best of Mexico’s premier coastal paradise.

Part of Los Cabos’ enduring allure is the fact that it’s two destinations in one. It has double the cities — with San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas making up the titular “Cabos” — and double the coastlines, as the geographic apex of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. And sandwiched in-between? A 20-mile stretch of luxury resorts and cultural attractions known as the Golden Corridor. More is more here — or, in the local parlance, más es más, and as such, Los Cabos always delivers the best of the best, from artisan shops and natural attractions to culinary hot spots and, of course, a collection of exceptional Exclusive Resorts Residences. Read on for our short list of all that’s fit to eat, drink, see, and do on your next escape to Mexico’s ultimate paraiso.

Where to Eat & Drink

It’s not all tacos and ’ritas around here (but would it really be so bad if it were?). Over the last decade, Los Cabos has evolved into a culinary hot spot, even luring Michelin to bestow honors upon restaurants around the twin towns. If the red guide is your North Star of dining, then Cocina de Autor and Manta are your top reservations to book. The former is a multi-course extravaganza where Japanese and other Asian flavors fuse with local Mexican ingredients, while the latter is the brainchild of Mexico City’s master of mole Enrique Olvera. If you’re looking for a meal that doubles as a family activity, head to Flora Farms, the 25-acre farm and restaurant that has everybody covered: a turtle pond, playground, pizza oven, and ice cream stand for the kids; margaritas, ultra-fresh provisions, elevated cuisine, and even a handful of luxury shops for the adults.

Manta, designed by JSa Arquitectura and Enrique Olvera, was conceived as a black box that focuses on the views from one of the most desirable and secluded playas in Cabo

For an immersive journey through Mexican cuisine, spirits, and heritage, head to Mezcal at Montage Los Cabos to try generations-old family recipes that have been elevated with modern gastronomic practices. True to its name, the restaurant is also a prime destination for sampling Mexico’s finest spirits via an inventive cocktail menu and premium mezcal, tequila, and sotol tastings. And for a classic street taco with flair, look no further than La Palapa at Esperanza, Auberge Resort — the only thing that can rival the restaurant’s carnitas are the stunning views from its clifftop tables.

Evenings at Montage Los Cabos are truly special, and Mezcal is the perfect place to unwind

Where to Shop

From the delicate beaded figures of the Huichol tribe to the exquisite textiles of Puebla, Mexico’s artisan culture is legendary. You’ll find it all at La Coyota, a beautifully curated colonial-style hacienda in Cabo San Lucas where owner Edith Jimenez sources everything authentically and ethically. Each piece is handmade and one-of-a-kind, from the hand-painted Día de los Muertos and mythical alebrijes figurines to the embroidered blankets and colorful pottery stacked high in every room. More than a shop, La Coyota is also a bar and a restaurant — and best of all, everything (even that margarita glass) is shoppable. Los Cabos is a mecca for modern artisans and designers, too. In San José del Cabo, visit Kere's curated boutique brimming with hand-woven handbags, suede vaquero hats, hand-crocheted fashions, and creative ceramics — all made by Mexican artisans using natural fibers and other native materials.

Head to the shops at Flora Farms to shop more high-end artistry, like jeweler Eduardo Sanchez's calavera rings and natural stone necklaces. Next door, Eclectic Array is another boutique showcasing locally made items, from wide-brim hats made from palms by a local collective of female artisans to jackets, dresses, and tops embroidered with the unique floral and animal designs of the Otomi tribe.

Where to Play

The Baja Peninsula is perpetually sunny, which means there’s no time to waste indoors when in Los Cabos. Of course, the majority of visitors come for the beach, and while much of the Pacific-facing coastline is home to crashing waves (great for surfing; not so much for swimming), the Sea of Cortez–facing Punta Ballena Beach Club at Esperanza Resort is always a serene spot for beachcombers and pool dwellers alike. Even better: Access to the resort's amenities are included in every Exclusive Resorts stay. Esperanza is more than a beach resort though. Three pools keep everyone cool (including the kiddos, who get their own sprawling water complex), while pickleball and tennis courts inspire a bit of athleticism while on vacation. The Spa at Esperanza, meanwhile, offers a chance to connect with nature and culture via a series of wellness journeys combining traditional rituals such as energy cleanses and gratitude ceremonies with healing treatments like the rose-and-cacao body wrap and sea-of-life organic facial.

Farther afield, Baja’s land and sea await for adventures both rugged and refined:
